The area of the Forum Boarium is of the greatest interest because it’s linked to the dawn of the city of Rome and because for a long time it was considered an area of prestige for Rome and its trade. In fact, the accumulation of economic interests in this area, thanks to the presence of the river, has allowed it to play a fundamental role in the origins of the city, well before the center of political and administrative life moved towards the valley of the Republican Forum.

At the same time, the activities carried out in the Forum Boarium were, since the origins of Rome, celebrated thanks to the creation of sacred areas dedicated to divinities belonging to the sphere of commerce. For this reason this place is considered one of the oldest centers of worship in Rome.

During the tour it will be possible to admire some of the buildings built in this area in the republican and imperial times, still considered today among the best preserved ancient monuments in the city; we will talk about the ancient Portus Tiberinus and the mythological stories related to the ancient Forum, without neglecting at the same time the most recent transformations, such as some well-known churches that arose during the Middle Ages, or the urban transformations carried out during the Fascist period. Given the geographical proximity, a short stop at the Circus Maximus, overlooking the Palatine Hill, is included in the visit.
