Trastevere, during ancient times, thanks to its proximity to the river, was the favourite place for the settlement of sailors, fishermen, dock workers and oriental immigrants, especially Jews. We should imagine it as a multi-ethnic place, maybe the most multi-ethnic of Rome.
During the Middle Ages its current character started to take shape, manifesting itself with its narrow, winding and irregular streets, preserved over the centuries, so much so that it resembles a real labyrinth of alleys, in which it’s easy for strangers to get lost.
During the tour it will be possible to discover its history, passing through the most important alleys and squares, entering its major churches and enriching the narrative with popular stories that have made this neighbourhood one of the liveliest and most folkloric in Rome.
